EXPRESSIONS HAS SCORED!                                                Expressions Dance Company welcomes the appointment of internationally renowned choreographer Natalie Weir as Artistic Director and arts aficionado Libby Lincoln as General Manager. Together they make an inspirational powerhouse team energized and ready for the challenge.

NATALIE WEIR – Artistic Director
Natalie Weir is an internationally renowned choreographed who has been choreographing professionally for more than 20 years. In that time she has created over 150 works. She was a founding member of Expressions Dance Company and was offered her first choreographic commission by Expressions at the age of 18. She has since created at least 8 works for the company. Natalie has worked extensively throughout Australia, creating many works for most of the countries major classical and contemporary dance companies. Natalie has also created works for international companies such as American Ballet Theatre, Houston Ballet, Singapore Dance Theatre and Hong Kong Ballet. “I am thrilled to lead this company through this exciting transitional year and into a new era. The future is unwritten – I look towards it with great optimism. I have a great passion and
belief in dance and its ability to move us.” Natalie Weir

LIBBY LINCOLN – General Manager
Expressions Dance Company is delighted to announce that Libby Lincoln has commenced as their new general manager, starting on 27 January 2009. Libby has extensive experience in the performing arts gained over 22 years with key roles including Programme Director Riverfestival, Special Projects Director Brisbane Festival, Senior Producer Queensland Music Festival, Executive Producer Queensland Biennial Festival of Music, Director and Artistic Director BEMAC, General Manager Out of the Box Festival and over the years, has producedscores of commissions in music, dance and theatre in addition to large community events. “Being able to immerse myself in dance is so satisfying. Dance is the most dynamic artform of this century and Expressions can bring a lot to the table in regards to new work development and industry development. The journey inspires me and working alongside Natalie Weir, whose vision for the Company is amazingly fresh and uplifting, is certainly a privilege.” Libby Lincoln

2009 PROGRAM                                                                          Expressions Dance Company is embarking on an exciting new chapter with a fantastic new team and an exciting performance program not to be missed. The company launches into 2009 with Score!, a season to celebrate the work of Founding Artistic Director Maggi Sietsma. The company then goes into a creative development for The Dancemakers with three new works by newly appointed Artistic Director Natalie Weir, Timothy Brown and Csaba Buday.

Score! offers a take on behind the scenes of reality TV....Inspired by Fokine’s Petrushka Score! gives a twist to the characters, the puppeteer is now a slick TV host - his dancing puppets contestants in a glitzy reality TV competition.

THE DANCE MAKERS

28 Aug – 5 Sept 2009 Judith Wright Centre                                            The Dance Makers offers new works by three daring and unique Australian choreographers at differing stages within their creative careers. Emerging choreographer Timothy Brown explores his distinctive, quirky style in a new short work, and thrilling creator Csaba Buday creates his first work for Expressions. Natalie Weir, an internationally renowned choreographer known for her highly physical partner work, organic movement style and touching insight into the human nature will create a world premiere one act work to complete the evening. Inexhaustible in energy and invention, The Dance Makers marks a new era for Expressions Dance Company in the commencing of an exciting new future. Come along and be a part of history.. and dance… in the making.

Performance and Workshops for DANCE and DRAMA Students

In 2009, Expressions will perform TWO magnificent seasons featuring SCORE! by Founding Artistic Director Maggi Sietsma and THE DANCE MAKERS featuring premiere performances of NEW WORKS by Natalie Weir, Csaba Buday and Timothy Brown.

Expressions will be providing a WORKSHOP and PERFORMANCE PACKAGE to schools for both of these incredible seasons. For just $20.00 per student the package provides the opportunity to attend the performance and participate in a workshop conducted by an Expressions Dance Company dancer at your school. Plus 1 teacher per 20 students is FREE. Our workshop leaders will come out to your school to conduct the workshops in your teaching space. A suitable type of workshop can be selected from our range of workshops for your students.
