Ryan began his professional dance training in 1993 at the Adelaide University and the Sydney-based McDonald College under the directorship of Alan Cross and Josephine Jason where he received a scholarship. His extensive dance career includes seasons with The South Australian Opera Company, Opera Queensland and Opera Australia. While performing with Opera Australia, Ryan was promoted to Assistant Director for their 2002 season of The Gondoliers. He has also performed with Tasdance and One Extra Dance Company. Ryan has worked with a host of Australia’s most acclaimed choreographers including Garry Stewart, Natalie Weir, Lucy Guerin, Kim Walker and Graeme Murphy. During 2000, Ryan had the pleasure of performing along side Nicole Kidman in Baz Luhrmann’s feature film ‘Moulin Rouge’.

Since joining Expressions in 2001, Ryan has performed in the company’s Brisbane seasons, national tours and international tours including to Singapore, China, Germany, Mexico, New Caledonia, Macau and the USA. Ryan extended his career profile in 2006 when he was invited to be a guest with The Queensland Ballet Company for their Brisbane season of Romeo & Juliet. In 2007 he performed in Katie Noonan’s video clip, ‘Time to Begin’, choreographed by Natalie Weir. Ryan is excited about Expressions creative future under the newly appointed Artistic Directorship.
