A young emerging choreographer and former dancer of Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan, Cheng graduated from Taipei National University of the Arts (TNUA) in 2002. He has performed in Lin Hwai-Min’s Cursive, Cursive II, Legacy, Smoke, Moon Water and Bamboo Dream and toured with the company nationally and internationally.
Cheng started choreographing while studying at TNUA. His works have been performed by various performance groups such as Focus Dance Company, Ting Chu Art Dancing Group and M_Dans. In 2004 his works Basement and Yao were selected to perform in the Asian Young Choreographer’s Workshop and Asia Pacific Arts Forum. In 2005 his new work White Adhesives, commissioned by Taipei National University of the Arts, was invited to perform at the “International Conference in Malaysia World Dance Alliance Asia Pacific” later that summer. International dance experts acclaimed it as “the most outstanding dance of the year.”
Cheng's choreographic works include: Restless War (2002), Contest (2002), Seeming (2003), Basement (2004), Yao (2004), White Adhesives (2005, Tete Beche (2006) and A Dignified Joke (2006).
In March 2006, Cheng’s Tete Beche won the Bronze Medal of the No Ballet- 1st International Choreography Competition Ludwigshafen, overcoming three hundred competitors’ works.
