  Queensland Tour 2015

A Contemporary Double Act

One of Australia’s most dynamic and internationally recognized contemporary dance companies, Expressions Dance Company, along with the Queensland Arts Council, are touring a double-act of innovative and energised dance throughout Queensland this October. Centres included on the tour are Maryborough, the Gold Coast, Rockhampton, Caloundra and Toowoomba.

Presented by Queensland Arts Council’s Ontour Onstage and Expressions Dance Company, this mesmerizing double bill performance comprising of Jigsaw, created by one of Queensland’s most talented choreographers Natalie Weir, and Fragments of Memory created by international choreographer and former dancer with the world renowned Cloud Gate Dance Company,
Cheng Tsung Lung.

Queensland Arts Council’s Ontour onstage Manager Jane Atkins said the program will captivate audiences with its powerful style of dance. “Expressions Dance Company transforms dance into intimate story telling with their amazing physical abilities and talent,” said Ms Atkins. “It is absolutely mind-blowing.”

The first half of the show Jigsaw, explores how certain phobias including claustrophobia, the fear of venturing outside,
the fear of being noticed and the fear of intimacy, can affect our personal relationships. The second half, Fragments of Memory, is a dynamic, contemporary, physically powerful piece of dance driven by pulsing undercurrents of emotions.

Expression Dance Company is conducting free workshops for ticket holders in contemporary and classical dance techniques
and composition, as well as movement classes, for all dance and drama students. Dance schools, high schools or community groups wishing to participate in workshops are to contact:
