On Thin Ice

Performance + FREE Workshop for all Dance and Drama Students

In October and November 2008, Expressions will perform On Thin Ice, in Toowoomba, Maryborough, Gladstone, Rockhampton, Caloundra and the Gold Coast. This regional Queensland tour is
co-presented by Queensland Arts Council and Expressions Dance Company.
For groups of 10 students or more who attend this performance, Expressions
will also conduct a FREE WORKSHOP for dance, drama
or P.E. students. At $12 per student
this is a comprehensive package including the performance and free
workshop experiences.
Students who experience On Thin Ice, will have instruction
from the dancers they see on stage in a small group workshop. These
workshops promote a greater understanding of dance and movement
techniques and develop a close working relationship between the
dancers and their audiences.
The Performance
In the world around us, dramatic changes are taking place…
On Thin Ice, choreographed by Company Artistic Director, Maggi Sietsma, fuses movement, film, text and atmospheric sound into a compelling, visually rich and physically exciting dance work, which looks at the delicate balance between human cultural and ecological habitat.

The Workshop
Entry to the workshop via a ticket to the performance. Expressions Dance Company’s workshop
leaders will come out to your school to conduct the workshop in
your teaching space. At the time of your booking, we will decide
on a suitable time and type of workshop for your students. In consultation
with you, our workshop leaders will devise the content of the workshop
in order to fulfill the particular needs of each school group.
The workshops we offer can include:
DANCE STUDENTS
· Contemporary Technique
· Classical Technique
· Composition (choreography)
DRAMA STUDENTS
· Movement for Drama
· How to Create Movement Ideas
· Creating Character with Movement
The duration of the workshop is one hour. The workshop leader can
tailor the workshop to a beginners, intermediate or advanced level,
depending on the group’s experience and skill level.

Expressions has Education Department approval to conduct workshops
in High Schools.
This tour is presented in association with Queensland Arts Council’s
Ontour onstage and is assisted by Arts Regional Touring Service
(ARTS), a Queensland Government initiative.
